A Night at the Red Bank Club
The JROTC department of Stratford High School, this past weekend, enjoyed one of its highly anticipated events. This past March 19th, the Red Bank Club hosted the JROTC Military Ball. Many people hurried excitedly to the ball dressed in their best: guys in their uniforms or nicely dressed in a suit and girls in their lovely evening dresses. Cadets delighted in music and hors d’œuvre while dancing the night away. The night began with the presentation of the colors, singing of the National Anthem, posting of the colors, opening remarks from the Colonel and Battalion Commander, a presentation video by the Special Projects Officer, C/CPT Michael Kirby and the awarding of the senior superlatives by the Battalion Executive Officer, C/MAJ Jake Dopson.
“And so the best boy to bring home to mom and dad would be…Me!”
It was very a very nice award to win for Jake. Last, but not least, the crowning of the Ball Queen and Princesses by the Battalion Commander, C/LTC Benjamin Pearson and the Battalion S-1, C/MAJ Anthony Ulloa. The princesses are as folow:
- Freshman Class: Erika Gilmore
- Sophomore Class: Jessica Pace
- Junior Class: Cari Tuscherer
- Military Ball Queen: Khalah White
All-in-all, the Military Ball of 2010 was a night to remember!
Tea at the Creek
March 20th, several of our cadets volunteered to participate in the Tea Ladies event at Metro North Church. It was a multi-themed fund-raiser for the church, which attracted over two hundred people. Everyone who came enjoyed playing raffle games and taking part in silent auctions. This even began with the Color Guard, consisting of — C/LTC Pearson, C/CSM Hughey, C/CPT Wilcox, and C/CPT Vick presenting and posting the colors. Afterwards, a delicious lunch was served and different groups performed Irish-Celtic dances and musical. After these wonderful performances, professional gardeners gave classes on how to plant beautiful flowers and maintain a lovely garden. Once this exciting service was over, the exciting time of drawing the raffle prizes began. Our very own C/CPT Danial Wilcox won a half-hour massage!
“Personally receiving a round of applause from all the wonderful ladies at Tea at the Creek was such an honor. They all congratulated me as I won a half-hour massage (for my girlfriend of course)…I’m not even sure I was supposed to partake in the raffle.”
Congratulations to you, Wilcox. To end the day with a bit of courtesy, JROTC cadets assisted the elders by taking their prizes to their cars as well as packing everything away for the next meeting of the Tea Ladies. The Tea Ladies Fund Raising event was a joyful one and we look forward to participating in it next year!
College Park Fair
You missed an exciting event if you did not attend the College Park Middle School Fair that was held back on March 27th! The fair was conducted to help raise money for the school. The day started at 7:30 in the morning and ended at 3:30 in the afternoon, and JROTC cadets were sure to arrive on time to help set up. Delightful games, such as miniature bowling, quarter toss, cake walk, and balloon rides were available to children of all ages to enjoy. Different cadets were assigned to each of theses stations to ensure safety, but more importantly to ensure that everyone had fun.
“The fair was a lot of fun, we gave the little kids a great time and even the cadets got to be kids again.” – C/MAJ Anthony Ulloa
